Jasper

On July 29th, Matt and I set off for our much needed vacation . . . however, it was not to be, at least not that night. Our flight was canceled due to mechanical failure, so we were put on a flight the next morning. In all the shuffle of getting home and back to the airport again, Matt's wallet was misplaced. He still had his passport, but no drivers license which proved to be somewhat of a problem since we were renting a car and Matt gets car sick if he doesn't drive.

We finally made it to Canada on July 30 around 3:00pm. Thankfully, there were no issues at customs with my lack of a passport. We spent the first day (or what should have been a day) with some good friends. We greatly enjoyed our visit there, and all too soon had to get in our rental car and head for the rockies.

We really enjoyed our time in the mountains. It was so peaceful there, and the amazing beauty of creation was breathtaking. We are hoping to return there for a longer vacation sometime in the future. We just couldn't see it all in the two days we were there.

We enjoyed riding the Jasper Tramway which took us most of the way to the top of the mountain, and from there we hiked to the top. The view was incredible!

We then headed to Maligne Lake. Maligne Lake has been popularized due to a little island that was photographed and entered in a contest. When it won first place, the photo was put in a prominent place in New York City. When people saw the picture, they wanted to know where it was. Now it is a significant tourist attraction. We went for a cruise on Maligne Lake to see Spirit Island. It was a gorgeous lake, however the island was a little overrated. The water level had gone down and so the "island" was no longer an island. It was still a beautiful view.
Maligne Lake was our last stop in the Jasper area. We headed out that evening to spend the night at a B&B. I will write more later about the rest of our trip.

Hey! We were looking at our North American Wildlife book tonight at different habitats and it has the same picture (as the bottom one of your post) of Maligne Lake! And I recognized it!
