Happy New Year!

Matt and I rang in the New Year in a quiet little Bed and Breakfast in Warwick, NJ, about a half hour drive from where we live. While most were celebrating the New Year, Matt and I were celebrating one year of marriage. One year! It is hard to believe that one year has passed already. It seems like only yesterday that we were standing in front of that church reciting out vows while everyone else was fighting the stomach virus.

Matt planned our anniversary this year and surprised me with an overnight trip. I had no idea where we were going but he told me what to pack. So we packed our things in the car and headed off. The drive was beautiful and scenic and he had me completely bewildered as to where we were going. When we finally arrived in Warwick and I told him there was a quicker way to get there, he informed me that he had planned the route so that I would have no idea where we were going. His plan was definately successful. We settled into our room at the B&B and then he took me to a restaurant called the Iron Forge. It was a very unique country restaurant that served french cuisine. Matt had called ahead to make a reservation and requested a table by the fireplace. So when we arrived, they ushered us into the basement (closely resembling a decorated cellar) and led us to our table in the far corner. It was fairly smokey as we sat down, but shortly thereafter the smoke began to billow out of the fireplace. It was an old house, with a very old fireplace, and the wood had to be positioned just so to cause the smoke to go up the chimney. Several staff came by to try to rectify the problem and the smoke began to lessen. However, the damage had already been done. We were all dressed up and now smelled like we had been caught in a house fire. However the food was fantastic and we had a great time just enjoying the quiet atmosphere and a chance to talk. There is no question we will not forget our first anniversary!
