Our Little Adventure

Yesterday it was 94 degrees out, and I came home very hot and ready to go somewhere to cool off (not in our house, since the airconditioner was still sitting on the floor in the garage). So I suggested to Matt that we take the bike to the falls that are five minutes from our house and put our feet in the water. It seemed like a good idea, so we gathered our things and grabbed our helmets. But the bike wouldn't start. I guess the key had been left on and the battery was dead. The battery is located under the seat, so we tried to take the seat off as we have done many times before. It wouldn't budge. Nothing. With two of us pulling all it did was bounce. Suddenly, without warning, it popped off. We hooked it up to the car and it fired up right away. After putting everything away, we jumped on the bike and off we went. As we drove into the parking lot at the park, I took a deep breath. Even the air was cooler down here. We pulled into a parking spot and Matt turned off the bike. I am not sure what made him think of this, but he tried starting it again as soon as it was off. Nothing. So here we were at the park, neither one of us had a cell phone, no jumper cables, not even a pair of plyers to get the screw off that holds the seat on.

Deep breath . . .

We surveyed our surroundings. Who or what might rescue us from this pickle we had gotten ourselves into? There was only one other car there, and a family of three sitting on a nearby picnic bench. So we started making our way toward the family. Suddenly there was a very loud screech, and a following very loud crashing noise. An accident had just taken place on the nearby road. It sounded very interesting so the family started running toward the scene of the accident. There went our rescuers.

So we waited . . .

Finally they came back. Matt asked if they had jumper cables and a pair of plyers. They had both so we began the process of jumping the battery. It was all hooked up correctly, but the bike wouldn't even turn over. Nothing. Dead. So much for that. Plan B . . . "Can we borrow your cell phone?" He graciously agreed. After multiple tries, we finally got in touch with someone who was only 10 minutes away and could swing by. He gave us a ride home so we could get our car and jumper cables.

After jumping it again, we had no trouble getting it to start. So, even though we hadn't even done what we went to the park to do, we made our way home. We had enough frustration for one day. Certainly eating out would make us feel better, right?

And it did.
The End.
